Advanced
Transport & Bioremediation with GMS
The training course is sponsored by EMS-I and Politecnico di Torino. The four day course will consist of one day of instruction on model conceptualization and flow modeling with MODFLOW, and three days of instruction on contaminant transport modeling using MT3DMS, RT3D, and ART3D. The transport modeling discussions will include natural attenuation, bioremediation, BTEX degradation, and dechlorination. The course includes lectures and hands-on computer workshops using the Groundwater Modeling System (GMS). The workshops include step-by-step tutorials illustrating how to develop transport models in a GIS-based graphical software environment. The latter part of the course will also include a series of workshops where attendees will apply actual data from a set of case studies to build advanced flow and transport models. Further, participants are invited to bring project data to the course for a chance to work on it with assistance from the experts. Course attendees will have many opportunities to use the GMS software in this course. Attendees must bring a laptop computer to the course. Instructors will install the GMS software and enable each computer for the course.
A series of lectures and hands-on tutorials will be presented covering
the following topics:
R. Jeffrey Davis, P.E., Vice President of EMS-I. Jeff worked as a lead developer of the GMS software for 8 years at Brigham Young Universitys Environmental Modeling Research Laboratory before coming to EMS-I as a lead groundwater modeling consultant. He has considerable experience in the practical application of GMS to modeling problems and has taught numerous groundwater modeling courses worldwide. Dr. Massimo Rolle Researcher at Polytechnic University of Turin. He is an Environmental Engineer, registered P.E. (Provincia di Torino). His research interests focus on the modelling of the fate and transport of contaminants in the subsurface, natural attenuation, bioremediation of organic pollutants and environmental geochemistry. During his PhD, Dr. Rolle worked on biogeochemical modelling of organic contaminants in groundwater. He spent research periods at Auburn University (Alabama, USA) working with Prof. T.P. Clement and at University of Tuebingen (Germany), visiting the hydrogeochemistry group of Prof. P. Grathwohl. He has been involved in international (e.g. CORONA, confidence in forecasting of natural attenuation, EU funded) and national research projects in the area of bioremediation and natural attenuation modelling. He also collaborated with a consultants company working in the field of characterization and remediation of contaminated sites.
Course Schedule DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4
The cost of the 4-day course is $1,500.00 (USD) for pre-registration made at least 30 days prior to the course, and $1,600.00 (USD) thereafter. Registration includes the following: Complete course notes
