M2D is a 2D finite difference surface water flow and transport model. It was developed by Dr. Adele Militello who does contract work for the USACE-WES ERDC. It is a hydrodynamic circulation model with head, flow and tidal forcing boundary conditions. It is currently being modified to support sediment transport functions.
The interface to M2D is accessed through the 2D Cartesian Grid Module in SMS. However it also uses the Map Module via an M2D Coverage. In the Cartesian Grid module, the interface for M2D includes:
M2D utilizes all of the Cartesian grid tools and display options.
For new simulations, users will create the M2D grid based on a conceptual model. The conceptual model includes:
An M2D Coverage: this coverage defines the domain of the grid and the location of land and water in the grid.
An Area Property Coverage: this is an optional coverage or set of coverages which contain polygons of material types.
