Coordinate Conversions

Performing a coordinate conversion is accessed through the Edit menu, Coordinate Conversions item. This item opens the Coordinate Conversion dialog and allows the user to change the coordinate system that SMS is working in. Add data will be converted from the current system to the newly specified system. The dialog may also be accessed by right clicking on a single entity (grid, mesh, scattered data set ...) in the Project explorer. This allows the user to convert just that entity from a sytem that is not consistent with the current coordinate system into the current coordinate system.

1. Select the "Convert From" System

The "Convert From" system defines the coordinate frame the data is currently referenced to. When working from the Edit menu, this is the system SMS is working in and is dimmed by default because it is assumed you have already specified this system. When working from the Project Explorer, this is the coordinate system of the selected entity and must be selected.

2. Select the "Convert To" System

The "Convert To" system defines the system you will be working in after the conversion. When the dialog is invoked from the Edit menu, this is selected by the user and all data is converted from the current system to this new system. When the dialog is invoked from the Project Explorer, the "Convert To" system is dimmed because this is the system SMS is working in and all other data is already in this system.
