Error Summary Plot

An Error Summary plot is used to display a text listing of the mean error, mean absolute error, and root mean squared error for a Data Set and the observed values associated with a mesh or grid on observation points in the Observation Coverage. The errors shown are the mean errors for all observation points with computed data. Error Summary plots are created in the Plot Options dialog by setting the Plot Type to Error Summary. A sample plot is shown in the figure.

Error Summary Plot Options dialog

After the plot type is set in the Plot Options dialog, the Options button is clicked to open the Error Summary Plot Options dialog. This dialog contains the following:

Use active data set. This option causes the plot to show a summary of mean error between the set of observed values with the values of the active data set for each observation point. When the active data set changes, the plot is recomputed and updated. This option is not recommended, since observed data should apply to a specific data set.

All time steps. This option shows the mean error for all time steps instead of only at the current or specified time step value.

Use selected data set. This option causes the plot to compare the observed values with the values of the specified data set for each observation point. Changing the active data set does not affect the plot. Only one data set can be selected.

Use time step. When the 'All time steps' option is turned off, a time step should also be specified, but only for transient data sets.

Observed. This section shows the available list of observed values that were set up in the Observation Coverage Options dialog. Both constant and transient observed values should be available in this dialog.
