Program preferences refer to optional settings that are controlled by the individual user. They are accessed through their command in the edit menu, or by fight clicking in the project explorer.
Program preferences include:
General preferences include four areas. These:
Control what modules and models are to be active at startup
Specify where temporary files will be saved
Define the editor that will be invoked to view data files
Control data compression in XMDF/HDF5 files
Image preferences control the creation of image pyramids and where temporary JPEG copies of the image are stored.
Image pyramids can be created when an image is imported into SMS. Image pyramids are multiple resolution copies of the original image that are created and saved to speed up display. With pyramids, a lower resolution copy of the image displays quickly when drawing the entire image. As you zoom in, copies of the original image resampled at finer resolutions are then drawn. This option allows for optimal performance and clear image display.
The file location preferences allow the user to specify where auxiliary files that are used by SMS are located. This primarily refers to the model executables that are launched by SMS to perform analysis, but also includes files for coordinate conversions and tidal databases. By default the setting for each of these locations is set to NULL. When SMS is asked to utilize one of these files, if the value is NULL, the program will prompt the user for the file location, and then store that location as the preference.
Currently, this preference includes only one setting. This setting determines whether a scalar function can be viewed in conjunction with a vector function that is not in the same solution folder.
The toolbar preferences allow the user to determine which toolbars are displayed and available.
